Budapest | 2020 Travel Destination
In 2019, the Szechenyi chain bridge in Budapest was popularised as the location in which Will Smith did the viral 'Shiggy Challenge' and now it's a main attraction for tourists. However the eastern European city has a lot more to offer as it is the perfect self - care destination.
Here's why Budapest should be on your destination list for 2020:
Picturesque Scenery
Like most Slovakic countries, the architecture gives off a historical atmosphere in a contemporary context. The parliament building in particular is magnificent and one of the main attractions for this city.
If you are looking for Instagram-able locations then Budapest Castle sits high above the city and will provide a wonderful backdrop. It's accessible by a hike up many flights of stairs but the best time to visit is near sunset. Then you will be able to witness the sun descending over the city's bridges and buildings.
The Thermal Spas
There are two main bath houses in Budapest: Gellert Baths and Szechenyi Baths. The most popular of the two is Szechenyi Baths which has multiple outdoor pools which are heated to different temperatures. It also is host to the popular nightlife event SPARTY which is a combination of 'Spa and Party'.
The Gellert baths are located in the beautiful Gellert hotel and is said to be the most elegant baths in the country.
Entry fees are around £15 to enter during the day and for SPARTY events tickets usually start at £55.
The Food
The food in Hungary is very unique but familiar to those who have visited other countries in the region, a few of the staples are Germanic sausages with a side of mustard, chimney cake similar to the 'Trdelnik' in Prague which can be rolled with numerous fillings i.e. Nutella and goulash stew made from meat, sausages, vegetables and seasoned with paprika.
