Miami Travel Guide

Getting There

You can travel to Miami from the UK at a relatively good price. It usually takes 8 - 9 hours to get there. It took me about 8 hours and 20 minutes. We flew with British Airways which we would highly recommend, the journey there and back was comfortable and the food was at a good standard.

Accommodation

We spent five days in Miami and stayed at The Hall South Beach Hotel on Collin Avenue. The hotel is situated next to the famous Ocean Drive and close to the popular beach called ‘South Beach’. The Hall South Beach Hotel has an outdoor restaurant, bar  and swimming pool. The hotel is within walking distance to the Beach, restaurants and nightlife.

WHAT TO DO

Ocean Drive

Ocean Drive is Miami’s iconic street, likely because of all the movies it's been featured in, and it's also usually the first place people think of when they hear Miami Beach. The pastel, art-deco buildings, sparkling night lights, fancy cars, and rows of palm trees stretching from 1st street all the way up till 15th street screams Miami culture. Ocean Drive has the best restaurants offering quality dining, a view of the action and plenty of options in price and different cuisine.

Nightlife

Miami is known for its spectacular nightlife, ranging from different genre of nightclubs, entertainment, bar crawls and strip clubs. We went to Story and Pearl nightclubs during our stay in Miami. Both nightclubs were unique and offered a different caliber of music. Story was a hip hop nightclub and Pearl was an electronic dance music nightclub. In addition, Pearl was quite unique as it had tremendous Cirque Du Soleil acts in between songs which was a fantastic touch to the night. Both clubs had an amazing atmosphere and lots of energy.

Wynwood District

Wynwood is known for its countless vibrant street murals, Wynwood is one of the city’s most happening districts. Wynwood street art is an outdoor museum showcasing large-scale of art work. A hip young crowd frequents the neighborhoods with chic clothing boutiques, stylish diners and bars. This is a good spot for a chilled day out and a bonus if you love art as there is lots to explore on the streets of Wynwood.

South Beach

South Beach is known for its beaches and the glamorous scene of nightspots and restaurants. This is an ideal spot for sun seekers and beach lovers to enjoy a lazy day on the beach or to escape in that long- lasting book you were forever planning to read.

A Day-cation to the Bahamas

Why not add another country to your travel bucket list by having a day-cation to the Bahamas. The ferry from Ft. Lauderdale [Miami] takes you to Freeport [Bahamas]. The ferry that gets you there and back, 2.5 hours each way. Trip cost about $150.00 round trip that is around £115.00 in English pounds. If you love exploring unique beaches this excursion is a perfect way for you to spend a day in paradise soaking up the Bahamian sun on the white-sand beaches and turquoise sea water. It was definitely worth it!
